Trailers have fans clamouring for first sight of films
The trailers of two Bollywood releases have created much excitement in the industry over the past few weeks. First there is Ek
Villain by Mohit Suri, who directed the super blockbuster Aashiqui 2 last year. The romantic thriller, which features Sidharth Malhotra, Shraddha Kapoor and Ritesh Deshmukh, has been in the spotlight since the exciting trailers, which create mystery around the identity of the real villain. The second movie set to become another hit by Sajid Khan is the crazy comedy
Humshakals, which features Saif Ali Khan, Ram Kapoor and Deshmukh alongside Esha Gupta, Tamannaah Bhatia and Bipasha Basu.
Thriller hero
Varun Dhawan is on a roll. After the amazing success of
Mein Tera Hero, Dhawan has now bagged a thriller by Sriram Raghavan of Ek
Haseena Thi and Johnny Gaddar fame. Yami Gautam, who made her debut in
Vicky Donor has been cast as his leading lady. The cast includes Huma Qureshi, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Vinay Pathak. Dhawan is shooting Humpty Sharma Ki
Dulhania with Alia Bhatt. The woes of Rajinikanth’s
Kochadaiyaan continue. Last week, the Oriental Bank of Commerce successfully got the courts to order a stay against the release of the film because its producers owe them Rs 400-million (about R69-million). The bank maintains that the producers had promised to pay back the amount before the release of Kochadaiyaan , but they have failed to do so.
Police protection
Manukannan, director of the recently released Angusam, has asked for police protection after he was attacked and severely assaulted by a group of thugs angry about the sentiments expressed in the movie. It deals with the Right to Information Act in Tamil Nadu, but Manukannan stresses that it says nothing bad about the ruling party. Speaking shortly after being discharged from hospital and wearing a neck brace, Manukannan said: “Such attacks would discourage other filmmakers from making films for the benefit of society. Nobody would come forward to say and make films relevant to society’s wants and needs. We would like to categorically state that the film is not against the chief minister or the present establishment. We also request that we be provided adequate security to prevent further attacks on us.”
Comic horror
Sundhar C will return to the screen with his next directorial venture,
Aranmanai, a horror comedy that also stars Vinai Rai, Hansika Motwani, Andrea Jeremiah, Lakshmi Rai, Santhaanam and Kovai Saralla. It features extensive scenes of computer graphics. Sundhar C has been encouraged by the success of the horror comedy Yaamirukka Bayamey, which was released last weekend.
Making amends
Producer KT Kunjommon, who once ruled Kodambakkam, is set to return when he once again brings together Rajinikanth and director Shankar in a film. There had been some tension between Rajinikanth and Kunjommon because of a public statement made by the producer four years ago and he, a huge fan of Rajinikanth, is anxious to put the episode behind them. —
