You can pick up old office cabinets from junk stores and second-hand office furniture shops. With the addition of some wallpaper scraps, they make a great storage option that looks cool too.

you will need

Steel ruler, Stanley knife, paint roller and tray, Fired Earth wallpaper adhesive, all Builders Warehouse (builders.co.za); find similar wallpapers at Black Fabrics (blackfabrics.co.za) or Sasi Wallpaper (sasiwallpaper.co.za).

what to do

1. Decide on a pattern you would like to create, measure the doors of the cabinet and cut wallpaper accordingly.

2. Mix the wallpaper adhesive in a bowl: follow the instructions on the pack. Our pack required five litres of water for every 200g of wallpaper flakes. Let it stand for three minutes.

3. Brush the prepared adhesive on the wallpaper, evenly coating the back of the paper from the centre out and making sure all the edges are covered. Press carefully on to the door.

4. Repeat with different colours and patterns of wallpaper, overlapping each one slightly on one side of the cabinet.

5. Add the first piece of paper for the opposite door by lining it up with the first door’s pattern. Continue until you have your desired pattern and leave it to dry. When completely dry, cut off any excess wallpaper on the sides with the Stanley knife. Basket, stylist’s own; Drake rug, R2 875²per square metre, Hold Me, Captain (holdmecaptain.com); Menu Flip Table, R3 500, Entrepo (entrepo.co.za).
