Lindiwe, my love . . .

-

I REFER to “Shock as Mazibuko quits DA” and “‘The decision to make a break was difficult’ ” (May 11).

As an admirer of Lindiwe Mazibuko, I must confess that I have grown to love her, although she does not know of my existence. I believe there are many others in my position, men and women.

This love is not based on any sympathy for her being young and leading so many members of parliament, most of whom are of a different colour and much older than she is.

My love for her is based on her ability to tackle those in power without fear or favour.

I have delightedly watched her take on the likes of Blade Nzimande, Jacob Zuma, Thulas Nxesi and others, and, to my amazement, win hands down.

Here is a young African lady, educated and, yes, bright and, of course, beautiful, setting the agenda of parliament and the ruling party.

I have no doubt that ministers had her in mind before making any presentation in parliament because she would substantively challenge documents with empirical evidence.

I wish her all the best, and because she is still young, this decision is for the best. Rather now than later, when she will be busy running the country as a future president.

I have always wondered how I can make my only daughter be like her.

You go, girl. Harvard University is only for the cream among us and you will surprise yourself with what you will achieve. — Vuyi Ngcengeni, Kempton Park
