Just what the doctor ordered

THE decriminalisation of marijuana for medicinal and recreational use needs careful consideration, “Investors get high on dagga” (May 11).

Countries such as Portugal, the Netherlands , Canada and some states in the US have decriminalised the drug. If South Africa goes the same way, there is a huge potential to create a dagga industry that would create many jobs.

We also have the burden that the illegal use of dagga places on our police and the criminal justice system. By legalising “weed”, our police could focus on curbing the use of hard drugs such as heroin and cocaine. — Vijay Sewtahal, Durban
