Sturdy furniture firm now broken

I REFER to “Bloodshed at African Bank” (May 11). The report refers to the travails of the banking unit. What of subsidiary Ellerines? This furniture group was a bluechip stock when the company was run by the Ellerine brothers. Yet in the space of about five years, the bank has virtually destroyed it.

By replacing senior furniture executives with inexperien­ced ones, a once proud group is being reduced to rubble. What does this say about the bank’s own management team?
