IF YOU GO . . .

-

WHERE TO STAY: La Cumbrecita Hotel ( hotelcumbrecita.com.ar ) is the icon of accommodation in the village and has carefully maintained the original style of the Cabjolsky home. New additions include a tennis court, swimming pool and indoor gym. Doubles from $110 (R1 140). Planeta Cumbrecita is a rustic-style lodge with artistic touches and double rooms that look out over the valley. Doubles from $65 (R675).

WHEN TO GO: For weather, the best time to go is between September and April. If you’re planning on going in October, be sure to check the dates of the beer festival as any expectations of peace and quiet over that period will be shattered.

GETTING THERE: SAA cancelled their direct flight from Joburg to Buenos Aires at the end of March this year. It now quotes R10 427 return for September, with one stopover in Sao Paulo. This flight is available every day of the week.

GETTING AROUND: Internal travel in Argentina is done mostly by comfortable long-distance bus lines or by plane. For bus schedules and prices, see plataforma10.com . For local flights, see despegar.com . VISAS: SA-passport holders do not need to apply for a visa ahead of time. Visas are issued, free of charge, at the point of entry and are valid for a period of 90 days.
