Von Tobien cheese has an unique flavour — a strong, full-mouth flavour with a sweet undertone. I prefer stronger cheeses, so I love its tanginess. It is a curd-washed cheese made with our own combination of cultures. It is matured for three months. The cheese was made in memory of Robert von Tobien, the former owner of a special cheesery called Kimilili in Tulbagh. We are delighted with its success. The Belchers were recent recipients of a Food Hero award from the Slow Food Johannesburg Convivium for their contribution to the local artisanal cheese industry.
