THE BIG CHEESE
IF there is a good cheese to be found, Jo and Brian Dick are sure to sniff it out. The couple behind the Cheese Gourmet in Linden, Joburg, recently added two awards to their list of accolades — they were named a Food Hero by the Joburg convivium of the international Slow Food Movement, and last month they won the 2014 Eat Out Zonnebloem Produce Award for best outlet in the north of the country. The Dicks personally source most of the shop’s 140 different wheels of cheese — and they are proud to say it is mostly South African. Jo says: “We have always looked for different cheeses from small suppliers, whose farms we visit in remote parts of the country. It is such an exciting product; it starts off simple, but it changes dimension by what you add to it, then it changes as it ages.” — ......................................................
