MONYA EASTMAN,

STOKPERD

-

It was the sheer frustration of not finding functional, beautifully designed furniture while renovating her home a few years ago that prompted Monya Eastman to design her own. She had a kitchen table and bathroom cabinet made to her specifications and Stokperd grew from there.

Eastman says she always dreamed of escaping her corporate desk and “making beautiful things”, and her portfolio of products has grown to include beautiful, solid tables and beds as well as interesting storage solutions for tricky spaces, such as the hexagonal Zed shelves and the cheeky Zappa shelves, inspired by “the clenching of all fingers except the middle finger”.

Stokperd’s designs can all be customised to your specifications and wood preference, and if you have a tricky space to fill or an idea in your head that you can’t find in the shops, Eastman will plan a special piece for you.

“It feels good to create something tangible and useful that will hopefully enhance people’s lives,” she says.

Eastman is inspired by “uncomplicated, perfect and powerful” nature, and a swim in the sea or a walk on the mountain sprout new ideas. “I think you should only own things you love and ideally those should be built to last,” she says. “I like big tables because they bring people together and so many things get shared around them. And the older they get, the better-looking they become.” • stokperd.com
