‘We don’t want you to come in and take photos and give the wrong impression’

-

AS police photographers wrapped up another visit to the Springs property at the centre of the alleged family-abuse case yesterday, relatives began to remove furniture and other belongings of the couple who live there.

A braai stand and speakers were among the first items loaded on a truck.

Several family members of both the man and his wife confirmed that they planned to sell some of the furniture to raise money for the legal fees of the arrested 36-year-old father.

He faces charges of abuse, defeating the ends of justice, attempted murder and assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm. The father of five has not pleaded and is due to appear in the Springs Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday for a formal bail bid.

Although family at the house yesterday declined to comment, one of the man’s relatives said: “We want to speak and state his side of the case. But we can’t do it today. We don’t want to create further tension between the two families.”

A glimpse into the house revealed clothes scattered all over the floor and furniture in the living room. To one side stood a drum kit and a guitar against the wall.

An unidentified female relative came out of the house and said: “We don’t want you to come in and take photos and give the wrong impression of the family. It is untidy. It doesn’t usually look like this.” — Monica Laganparsad and Jan Bornman
