Collision kills baby in stroller
AN EIGHT-month-old baby was killed in Arlington. Texas this week when two vehicles collided at a busy intersection.
One of the vehicles, a red Toyota pick-up, crushed the stroller carrying the toddler.
The infant, David Bingenheimer, was declared dead at the scene.
His father, Daniel Bingenheimer, was taken to a hospital to be treated for injuries.
The father and son had been waiting to cross the street when they were hit, according to witnesses.
Bingenheimer picked up his tiny son after the accident and screamed out in pain, witnesses said.
Police said the vehicle collided with a white car. Witnesses said the car, driven by an identified woman, had run a red traffic light.
But police spokeswoman Cheryel Carpenter said investigators were trying to determine which vehicle had right of way.
“The dad carried his baby over to [the woman in the car] yelling, ‘Look at what you’ve done,’” said Dr Jerrod Edwards, whose surgery is nearby and who attended the scene, according to The Fort Worth StarTelegram.
The drivers of the vehicles involved were also hospitalised but were not in danger, local reporters said.
Police declined to identify the drivers but Fox News reported that the woman driving the car was a mother in her 40s, who was on her way home after getting coffee.
The dead boy’s mother, Chelsea, was visibly distraught as she arrived at the scene of the crash soon afterwards. She was reportedly six months pregnant.
Witnesses said Daniel walked the route with David in the stroller daily and was very proud of his son. — Own correspondent
