MTV VJ and online entrepreneur Roxy Burger finally said “Ja!” to her long-term love, Neil Sharga, in front of 130 guests at Forest Hall — a beautiful 150-year-old manor house down Plettenberg Bay way.

Neil, the owner of a logistics software company, met and fell in love with Roxy back in high school. The couple chose Plettenberg Bay as this is a special place for them, having spent countless holidays there with friends and family.

Roxy in particular is a big lobbyist for destination weddings, on the grounds that you can party for days on end before the big one dawns.

One unusual feature of the wedding was that Roxy and Neil decided to see each other before the ceremony on the day, and get the emotions out of the way — so as to reduce the risk of Roxy falling prey to a Kim Kardashian-style ugly cry as she walked down the aisle.

So the couple walked into the Tsitsikamma Forest and had the “big reveal” there. Just the two of them, their parents and the bridal party were present: intimate and special.

The wedding ceremony began on a funny note — the bride had chosen The Spice Girls’ Wannabe as the song to play when her bridesmaids came up to say their speeches, but the DJ got confused and played it as the accompaniment to her walk down the aisle instead.

“I thought my dad was going to have a heart attack, and my mom thought that’s what I had chosen! Meanwhile I was meant to be walking to a beautiful piece of classical music, Clair de Lune by Debussy. It was so funny!”

Levity was clearly the order of the day, with the couple having guests wear badges they’d made which had statements like, “Best Wedding Ever”, “Totes Amaze” and “Bitch stole my look.” Weddings these days not only play out on the day, they’re also documented on social media and reality shows alike and this day was no different with tweets and Instagrams coming from the wedding guests, including building up to the wedding, under #WeddyInPletty. The bride says they share everything on social media, so why not the big day?

This young couple sure knows how to throw a good party!
