Wine and whiskey
SA’s best labels made for a fun event
THE Kaya FM Wine and Malt Whisky Affair at The Firs in Rosebank had everyone in high spirits despite the cold weather on Thursday night. The smell of whiskey and the sound of raised glasses clinking set the tone as guests arrived, many of them in the mood to get serious about their alcohol. We mingled with the slightly tipsy tasters who complimented the quality and range of wine and whiskey on offer.
It was an “invite only” selection of the country’s top wineries and malt whiskey brands — all selected for their superior quality, said Wade Bales of the Wade Bales Wine Society.
Whiskey connoisseurs Bailey Vassanjee and Kishore Rajvee from Lenasia were among the guests. Sipping on his glass of amber liquid, Rajvee said he loved whiskey and would definitely be stocking up. However, it was difficult to get the men to pose for pictures because their glasses emptied quickly and off they went for a refill.
Sandton sisters Serista and Samiksha Budhram — only just over the legal age limit — were enjoying the wine. Serista, an international business student at University of Tampa in Florida in the US, was visiting her family and enjoying the evening out with her sister and parents.
Tables covered with white linen were laid out in lines through the hallways of The Firs and the guests made their way from table to table, selecting their favourites.
It was a fun evening out even for a teetotaller — the conversation was light and the guests were fun and friendly.
