Trey Songz hits a low note with SA clubgoer
And Wayans struggles with his pronunciation
US musician Trey Songz stunned a woman in a Durban nightclub when he crudely told her in public that he wanted to have sex with her.
The young woman, visibly embarrassed, walked away from the R&B singer, famous for hits such as Say Aah.
He is in the country for the MTV Africa Music Awards, held in Durban last night, and was seen at the trendy Vogue nightclub along with fellow musician Miguel and actor Marlon Wayans. Songz (real name Tremaine Neverson) was later seen seated in a corner surrounded by security.
Wayans hosted last night’s event, at which local Afro-pop duo Mafikizolo scooped two awards for best group and song of the year for their hit Khona.
Nigeria’s Davido won for best male singer and artist of the year, and his countrywoman, Tiwa Savage, was declared best female artist.
Nothing seemed to go to plan at the awards, from artists not knowing they were performing to some being added just hours beforehand to present awards.
According to an insider who refused to be named, Durban DJ C’ndo was only alerted at around 4pm that she was to present an award.
It was evident something had been changed in the show, which started at 9pm, when the organisers issued a release at noon yesterday with 13 additional names of stars who were to perform at the show.
Adding to the troubles, pronouncing African names got the best of host Wayans when he called local group Mafikizolo, “mafikizulu”.

“It’s the white man in me, they took me from here, stole me from y’all,” said Wayans.
He also couldn’t say Isibaya actress Nomzamo Mbatha’s surname, calling her “Math”.
Reality TV star Khloé Kardashian and her rapper beau French Montana also attended the event.
The pair stayed in the R50 000-a-night presidential suite at The Oyster Box hotel.
