Soap stars pull out all the stops to raise charity cash
Night of fun and some funky fashion
HOT. That is an apt description of both the fashion and the celebrities who made a huge impression at the 50 Shades of Black event at Durban’s The Square conference centre on Saturday night last week.
Leading the six-pack gang were Isidingo’s Ash Gangapersad and Maurice Paige, as well as former Scandal! star Clinton Brink.
Hosted by radio personality Varshan Sookhun in conjunction with the Geness Foundation, the fundraiser was aimed at benefiting the KwaZuluNatal Blind and Deaf Society.
The newly launched conference centre, which is becoming a popular venue for weddings, was a great spot for a show that incorporated a theatrical element of music and dance to the showcasing of eight local designers.
The guests, mainly dressed to the nines in 50 shades of black, nibbled canapés, ate ice cream and socialised to while away the time until an hour-late start.
The showcase was dramatic and entertaining, particularly some funky and fun fashion, and the crowd responded warmly to the actors.
Gangapersad, Brink and Paige almost brought the house down with their efforts to raise money for the charity by auctioning a holiday and a stunning neckpiece by gemologist Akshar Choudree.
This included Brink almost stripping down to his shirt, Gangapersad coaxing eThekwini speaker Logie Naidoo to phone a friend for a bid, and Paige cajoling an influential businessman to part with his money.
It was a night of fashion and fun, but the best part was knowing that more than R80 000 was raised for a fantastic cause.
