100% fabulous
Interested in the best of both local and international design? Then you need to get to the first 100% Design South Africa exhibition next weekend at Decorex Joburg. Set to be an instant update on what’s happening in the world of design, the show will feature leading design companies such as Vitra from Switzerland; Ligne Roset from France; Fritz Hansen and Hay from Denmark; Arper from Italy; Leolux from the Netherlands; Designers Guild from the UK; and Marlan Teak, Dauphin Human Design Group, John Vogel, Inova Contracts and Wiid Design from SA – to name but a few.
The exhibition covers design for the office, residential and hospitality sectors and will also showcase excellent product design. Many of the exhibitors are launching new products and you can also expect dynamic collaborations. Special features include 100% Office by Dokter and Misses; 100% Lodge by Home Fabrics with Head Interiors, M Interiors and Karen Robert; and an exhibition of South African ceramicists called the Long Table in association with Art in the Forest.
Home Weekly’s most-anticipated section is the Magnificent Makers Hub, where surface designer Atang Tshikare will be creating four large panels over the five days of the show, which will form one large design at the end. Tshikare has also been collaborating on a wallpaper collection with Robin Sprong Wallpaper, which will be showing visitors how designs can be digitally produced and printed. Bronze Age will be doing live 3D printouts of miniature sculptures, while skilled beaders Lorah Phampa and Sue Mabaso from Bead will be showing how their bespoke cushions are created.
As if that wasn’t enough, there will also be an interactive theatre (called the C.O. Designs Launch Pad) featuring guest speakers and launches, and the Colab Café, a retrospective exhibition of Mr Price Home’s design work with South African designers.
