Wife, 66, sat by husband’s body ‘for days’

-

AN ELDERLY woman sat beside the body of her husband, 300m from a police station in Bronkhorstspruit, for days before being found.

Anna du Toit, 66, told the security guard who found her in the garage of her home that she and her husband, Louis, had been attacked by two men.

Jacobus Janse van Rensburg, operations manager for GE Security, said as soon as he opened the garage door the smell of death hit him and he saw Du Toit, in a long flowery blue dress, seated near her dead husband.

“When you look inside the kitchen you can see she had been busy making coffee. then she was called and told to come and see the old man struggling with somebody in the garage,” said Janse van Rensburg.

“A case of murder has been opened,” said Constable Zanele Vilakazi of the Bronkhorstspruit police cluster.

Du Toit’s nephew, Ernst Crouwkamp, who called the security company when he failed to get hold of his relatives after calling for two days, thought his aunt had been sitting with her husband for a few days before being found. — Pericles Anetos and Jan Bornman
