Positive message lost in poorly written script

-

ARJUN simply does not have what it takes to be a film director. There are so many gaps in logic in this film that it is impossible to take it seriously.

Arjun, Surveen Chawla, Mayilsamy, Manobala, Rahul Dev, Simran Kapoor and Brahmanandam head the cast of Jai Hind 2, the sequel to the 1994 hit. The film is written, produced and directed by Arjun, who also directed Jai Hind.

A child’s parents try desperately to raise enough money to pay for her school fees. When they fail, what happens prompts Abhimanyu (Arjun) to tackle the problem of India’s double-edged problem in education: Poor-quality education at public schools and exorbitant prices at private schools. This puts Abhimanyu on a collision course with the owners of the private schools.

Arjun provides the film’s only impressive acting performance. Apart from his electrifying screen presence, he supports his performance with some soulful acting and an impressive physique.

Chawla does the bare minimum and Manobala is a huge disappointment.

Arjun has an excellent story to tell, but his efforts are destroyed by a very poor screenplay that crawls through the first half, punctuated by periodic awkward attempts at comedy from Brahmanandam and Mayilsamy.

The rest of the script, including the handling of the scene depicting a press conference, is tackled in an amateurish way.

The opening sequences promise an exciting background score, but it degenerates into a cacophony of clichéd sound. Arjun Janya fails to impress with any of the songs.

HC Venugopal’s cinematography is good, particularly in the action sequences.

The impact of the story — with all its positive messages — is negated because of the director’s inexperience, together with poor scripting and unconvincing acting.

Jai Hind 2 is a feast for fans of the action genre, but those wanting a good script to accompany the action should look right past this one.
