Walk on air in Marty’s shoes

- — Pericles Anetos

BACK to the Future fans will soon be able to stride in Marty McFly’s shoes.

The ‘‘futuristic” Nike Air Mags were made famous in the sequel to the 1985 movie when Michael J Fox’s character travels to 2015 — a future with flying cars, hoverboards and self-tying footwear.

Nike designer Tinker Hatfield, who created the original shoes for the movie, announced this week that the company would be making the Mags for real.

The footwear is expected to be released some time this year.

Nike has replicated the famous self-tying shoes with a patented mechanism that tightens the laces around the wearer’s foot.

The mechanism will be placed in the sole of the shoe, and will tighten the laces when it is activated — no tying required.

The company has been teasing fans with a possible release of the shoes since 2011, when it launched a video promoting the self-tying shoes.

No release date has been set for the shoes, but in the movie, Marty got his on September 8 2015.
