R1.2bn roadworks on N3 toll road over next two years
MORE than R1-billion has been allocated to upgrade three sections of the N3 toll road between Johannesburg and Durban.
The strategic freight and logistics corridor is to be overhauled in three phases due for completion over a two-year period.
Work has already started on the section between Mooi River and Estcourt, and is expected to be completed by the end of the year. This R444-million phase of the project includes the resurfacing of all lanes.
A R400-million project between Harrismith and Warden is scheduled to start later this month. Here, a 60km stretch of road is to be reconstructed and resurfaced to allow for dual traffic.
The most complex phase will be along the hightraffic section from Cedara to Tweedie near Howick. Kicking off in August, it will cost R400-million and is expected to take up to two years to complete.
