But the 14th Metro Awards sees other big winners — and glamour
FLAUNTING IT: Actress Pam Andrews COOL DUDS: Donald took Best Styled artist THE 14th Metro FM music awards at the Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre in Durban belonged to Cassper Nyovest last night.
The rapper walked away with five awards including best single for Doc Shebeleza, best hip hop artist and best male album for his successful album Tsholofelo. He also won in the song of the year and listener’s choice catergories.
Legendary musician Tshepo Tshola and the Mahotella Queens were honoured with special lifetime achievement awards.
Guests included celebrities and politicians and listeners added glitz and glamour on the black carpet. Deputy Agriculture Minister Bheki Cele and his wife Thembeka were there, as were Durban businessman Sbu Mpisane and his wife Shawn.
Socialite Bonang Matheba’s cerise pink figure-hugging dress and Pearl Thusi’s long white dress, both designed by Gert-Johan Coetzee, were winning designs.
Actress Pam Andrews wore a cheeky black and white design with leather straps covering her nipples.
Minnie Dlamini co-hosted the event with Metro FM afternoon drive show host Thabo Molefe.
Performers at the biggest event in the local music industry included gospel singer Sifiso Mcwane, Brian Temba, Sibongile Mngoma and Moneoa. Rappers KO and HHP ensured that guests were on their feet.
With 20 awards presented on the night and sizzling hot performances and collaborations, this year’s theme was “Celebrating Greatness”.

TRIO: The Mahotella Queens were given Lifetime Achiever Awards the award for Best Dance Album.
Winner of the best R&B single was Lloyd Cele, best African pop album went to Afrotraction, while the best compilation album accolade went to House Afrika.
The Soil won best duo group award and best produced album for Nostalgic Moments. The best urban jazz album award went to Wanda Baloyi, best kwaito album to Lvovo Derango and the best urban gospel album winner was Sfiso Ncwane.
The best new artist was Chymamusique for Gift of Song. The best THAT DRESS: Pearl Thusi was dressed by Gert-Johan Coetzee music video award was won by DJ Fisherman for his hit track Call Out.
A heartwarming tribute was paid to radio legend Eddie Zondi. Metro FM’s Robert Marawa joined the station’s DJs and staff by lighting electric candles in his honour. They were joined by Zondï’s widow, Phakamile Zondi and their children, who were presented with a special remembrance award.
