Hello, Adele, it’s Lionel, running out of time

FANS salivating over an official Hello mash-up between 25-yearold star Adele and Lionel Richie may be in for a surprise.

The 65-year-old Grammy winner told the Sunday Times: “I’m working on that right now!”

The Truly singer, who is heading to South Africa early next year, was quick to add that such a collaboration would have to happen quite soon, or else he will be “too old”.

“It’s just that if she does songs only every five years”, it would be tough, he added. “Our biggest issue is schedules. She’s touring, and I’m touring, but in the future, definitely.”

Richie has sold more than 100 million albums. His All The Hits . . . All Night Long world tour has performed to huge crowds across Europe, Australia and the Middle East.

In March next year, he will have South African fans dancing on the ceiling with him — his first time back since a brief visit in 2008. “It didn’t feel like I was there for the first time [in 2008]. It felt like a family reunion,” he said. This time he plans to stick around a bit Park, with its lavish private suites, was the perfect getaway for couples and families, Celliers said. Fancy a longer. “I am actually gonna hang this trip — spend a few days in each city. I don’t want to go where the tourists go, I want to go where the locals go.”

Richie’s love for his work has kept him in the spotlight for 47 years. “The only reason you can play for 35 to 40 years is because you enjoy it,” he said.

While mindful that he will not suite at R12 414 per couple per night or a suite for a family of four at R136 260 for just five nights? be able to perform every hit, he promises fans “the most perfect show”.

Richie is showing no signs of slowing down. Next year he plans on taking over from Britney Spears at Planet Hollywood when he hits Las Vegas.

For now, he has assured local fans: “Tell them I’m as stuck on them as they are stuck on me.”

He will perform in Durban, Port Elizabeth, Cape Town and Johannesburg.
