Feeling conned by R400 OUTsurance promotion

MY husband and I decided to take up an offer regarding car insurance from OUTsurance in terms of which consumers are promised R400 if their present insurance is less than what OUTsurance quotes.

When it was established that our existing insurance was cheaper, we were delighted to think we would receive R400 cash. However, the very charming agent asked us if he could give us a full quote to cover all our insurance needs, and we accepted the quote after two weeks.

Turns out the agent had failed to inform us that if we took a policy with OUTsurance, the R400 would fall away and we would not be paid.

We feel we acted in good faith and OUTsurance has failed to reciprocate. Be sure to collect your R400 if you qualify, before considering a quote from OUTsurance. We were conned. — MR Caldwell,

ý OUTsurance responds: Our adviser was incorrect in failing to inform Mrs Caldwell that she would not receive the R400 payment if she took a policy with us and we have apologised to her. In terms of the Short Term Insurance Act we are prohibited from making payments to people to take cover with us as this may be regarded as “inducement”. We will reward consumers with R400 if they decide not to become a client, to acknowledge the fact that we wasted their time. We’re paying R400 to hundreds of people each month, but this gives us the opportunity to present quotes to thousands of people who may otherwise not have called us. It’s a great proposition to prospective clients: get a quote from us, because you’ll either save on your premiums, or you’ll get R400 cash.
