Eagles of Death Metal plans to honour Bataclan attack hero

-

THE British man killed in the Bataclan theatre massacre heroically “bled out” in silence to avoid gunmen killing his friends, according to the band that was playing that night.

Nick Alexander, from Colchester, was the merchandising manager for the Eagles of Death Metal. He was shot when three gunmen stormed the theatre two weeks ago, killing 89 people — the heaviest death toll from the Paris attacks.

The band managed to escape via a side entrance after a terrifying brush with the Islamic State killers. In their first interview since IS opened fire mid-concert, the band’s lead singer, Jesse Hughes, told Vice News that Alexander protected a friend by “staying quiet and never call[ing] for help until he bled out, because he didn’t want anyone else to get hurt”.

The band said they had been deeply inspired by the “shared heroism” of the victims and “can’t wait” to return to the venue to honour the dead.

“We have to finish the tour,” said Josh Homme, a co-founder of the band. “Not only for our friends and our fans, not only for Nick Alexander, not only because this is our way of life.” — ©
