No selfies, sex or smoking at Angkor Wat

-

OFFICIALS are cracking down on disrespectful behaviour at Angkor Wat in Cambodia with a new code of conduct for visitors.

The list of banned activities includes smoking, giving money to begging children and taking selfies with monks, the Daily Mail reports.

The world’s largest religious monument and Unesco World Heritage Site has already hung up posters displaying the rules around the complex.

While this may appear to be a response to recent incidents — such as the two US sisters who were arrested after taking nude pics there in February — plans have been in the works for two years.

The rules also explicitly ban the exposure of “sex organs”, making such behaviour “a crime punishable by law”, and discourage women from sitting or standing too close to the monks, as they are “revered and respected” men.

The rules will be printed out and distributed to nearby hotels and tour companies.
