THE GREAT RAFFLES RIP-OFF

I was surprised to see Andrew Unsworth’s recommendation of the Singapore Sling at Raffles’s Long Bar in Singapore in the Travel Weekly of November 22.

My wife and I foolishly went there in May and paid the equivalent of R320 for the Sling and R220 for a Heineken beer.

It is one of the biggest rip-offs we have encountered and I feel quite embarrassed to admit my snobbery suckered me into being a victim.

The hotel, of course, is impressive and well worth a visit. The hop-on-hop-off bus and MRT are a great recommendation and worth using. — Brian French
