IF YOU GO …

-

GETTING THERE: Ingeli Forest Resort is just off that shady, whispering stretch of the N2 between Kokstad (35km) and Harding (25km).

WHAT IT HAS: A slightly out-of-time otherworldliness. Comfortable rooms, a restaurant, a bar, a fantastic deck, kids’ activities and a pool. And the stars of the show: mountain bike and hiking trails through the forest. The bike trails range from 3km to 30km; the walks from a quick 1.8km to 9km or more.

WHAT TO PACK: Rain gear. This can be a misty, damp part of the world.

WHERE TO EAT: The restaurant caters well to carnivores, and the breakfast buffet is more than ample. Vegetarians may find the fare less interesting.

RATES AND ROOMS: The top floor of rooms 21 to 37 have a great view of the gardens, while rooms 1-14 are in double chalets surrounding the pool. There is also accommodation in freestanding log cabins. Rates are from R550 per person per night sharing for a comfort room; dinner and breakfast takes this up to R860. Deluxe rooms vary from R680 per person to R990. But look out for specials on the website.

CONTACT: Telephone the lodge on 039 553 0600 or visit ingeliforestresort.com.
