FAVOURITE HOTEL?

-

was a real thrill. That’s as adventurous as I’ve been but I’d like to do more — I’d love to go on a safari in South Africa. THE MOST REMOTE PLACE YOU’VE BEEN? Chittagong and Dhaka in Bangladesh, which was a real eye-opener. I also went to Alice Springs in Australia, which was absolutely scorching. I also got to visit Cape Point when I went to South Africa, which was pretty special. carpet for us. We got to stay at the Conrad Hotel and dined at some amazing restaurants. It would be hard to top that trip. I’ve loved just about every hotel I’ve ever stayed at in the Caribbean. But that’s partly down to the location. They’re often set on the beach, so you look out of your hotel window and see an azure sea. But perhaps my favourite hotel of all is the Lowry Hotel, in Salford, Greater Manchester. It’s a modern five-star hotel, very luxurious and surrounded by lots of nice restaurants. FAVOURITE CITY? New York. I visited last year for the first time and it just blew me away. It lived up to all my expectations, and I did all the usual touristy things such as visiting 42nd Street and Central Park. WORST TRAVEL EXPERIENCE? Flying into “Windy Wellington” — as it is known — in New Zealand isn’t much fun. The flight can be pretty bumpy and I’m not a huge fan of flying. Another annoying thing about travelling is having to take off your boots at most airports. DO YOU ENJOY THE CAMARADERIE OF AN ENGLAND CRICKET TOUR? I do. They’re a great bunch of lads and we have a lot of fun. We probably spend more time together than we do with our partners — it can be tough on the guys with young families. We try to keep each other’s spirits up. YOUR BEST TRAVEL ADVICE? I always try to get into the sleeping pattern of wherever I’m going as quickly as possible. YOUR TRAVEL ESSENTIAL? A good playlist on my iPod. WHERE NEXT? I’m not a bad skier, so I would love to go skiing somewhere such as Whistler or Banff in Canada this year, my schedule permitting. — Interview by York Membery. © The Daily Telegraph
