MTHATHA attorney Mvuzo Notyesi and Brits attorney Jan Janse van Rensburg were elected co-chairpersons of the Law Society of South Africa at its AGM this month.
Human-rights lawyer and activist Notyesi is the president of the National Association of Democratic Lawyers.
He holds BProc and LLB degrees from the University of Transkei, and was admitted as an attorney in 1999 after completing his articles and attending the LSSA’s School for Legal Practice in East London. Since then, he has practised as director at Mvuzo Notyesi Incorporated.
He has been a council member of the Cape Law Society since 2011 and is currently its vice-president.
Van Rensburg has represented the Law Society of the Northern Provinces on the LSSA council since 2001. He has twice served as president of the LSNP, in 2008 and 2011. He has also served on the North West Attorneys’ Council since 1997. He sits on a number of committees at both the LSSA and LSNP.
He has BCom and BProc degrees as well as an advanced diploma in labour law. He was admitted as an attorney in 1984 and is also a notary and conveyancer. He practises as a sole practitioner at Jan van Rensburg Attorneys in Brits. LAW firm Webber Wentzel has appointed insurance regulatory law specialist Juanita Moolman as a partner in its financial regulatory practice.
Moolman has 16 years’ experience in the field of insurance regulatory law. She joins Webber Wentzel from Hollard Insurance, where she served as head of legal for five years. Before that, she worked for the Professional Provident Society and has also held positions at Sage Financial and at Sanlam’s estate and trusts unit.
Moolman has built relationships with regulatory agencies such as the Financial Services Board, and is experienced in drafting and submitting applications to the FSB. FINANCIAL planning company GCI Wealth has appointed Natasja Hart as a senior financial planner. She has more than 17 years in the industry and has a BCom as well as two advanced postgraduate financial planning diplomas.
Previous work experience includes stints at Citadel, Consolidated Financial Planning and, latterly, Sasfin. In 2010, she was only the second woman to receive the prestigious financial planner of the year award from the Financial Planning Institute; she now acts as a judge for the awards. She also sits on the institute’s board and chairs its audit committee. She also lectures part time at the Gordon Institute of Business Science.
