Meeting of great braai minds brings us together

-

THEY’RE the rock stars of meat, and they’re taking their show on the road again.

The third annual braai tour starts on Saturday in the run-up to Heritage Day on September 24, and this year’s competitors include a rock band from Soweto, four women from Spur head office and Germans with bratwurst pretensions.

They’re among seven teams, led by Jan Scannell (aka Jan Braai), who will cook their way from Cape Town to the Addo Elephant National Park in the Eastern Cape, where they will celebrate National Braai Day.

Nathi Louw, a member of band Ree-Burth, said: “We play music that’s a subculture, and this tour is about that — braaiing and mingling with a bunch of different South Africans.”

The Spur team aim to prove that sisters can braai too.

Another first for the tour is a group from Germany, which consists of three YouTubers with 250 000 subscribers among them, and a blogger. “We are expecting a great journey with beautiful landscapes and delicious South African meat,” said member Klaus Glaetzner. — Jerome Cornelius
