Shaving ‘Hairman’ ambitions

IT took only a week for new Johannesburg mayor “Hairman” Mashaba to realise that his party’s marriage to Juju’s Red Beret Brigade would not last until “death do us apart”.

It seems Mashaba had succumbed to the comfort of his new chair in Braamfontein when he told the country he was going to privatise waste removal company Pikitup.

Silumko Mabona, the Red Berets’ regional secretary in Johannesburg, threatened to turn Mashaba into another Des van Rooyen if that proposal reached the council. “The DA must desist from challenging pronouncements sacrosanct in our manifesto or else they might need to ‘give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar’ and render Hairman the first ‘weekend special’ mayor,” warned Mabona.

With political partners like these, who needs the opposition?
