Pastor vows to find husbands for all in marriage marathon

MORE than 7 000 single women from as far away as the UK, Seychelles and the Democratic Republic of Congo flocked to the Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand on Friday night in the hope of finding a good man.

They were there for the start of Alleluia Ministries International pastor Alph Lukau’s 90day marriage miracle countdown, themed Wholeness 4 Greatness.

The Congolese clergyman used oil to anoint the ring finger of every woman there, and promised they would find their dream man within three months.

The church was criticised on social media last month for charging a R5 000 entry fee for those seeking marriage, having problems in their relationships or battling to conceive.

But Lukau’s followers were not deterred by the criticism. They cheered, clapped and screamed when the pastor took to the podium.

“Tonight is the night. You will meet your Mr Man in 90 days from today,” he told the crowd.

To start the evening, Lukau conducted two “impromptu” weddings. One of them was of Freddy Tutu, 44, from Giyani in Limpopo, who arrived with a wedding gown in a suitcase and asked the pastor to do the honours.

His longtime girlfriend, known only as Nthabiseng, told the crowd she had been taken by surprise by his request. “I knew marriage was on the cards, especially after this event. I believed that God would have made my dream possible by December but didn’t know it would happen so soon,” she said.

The couple got hitched just after midnight, with Bongani Nchang of Afro-pop group Malaika singing the wedding anthem, Nguwe Sthandwa Sam.

The media was prohibited from speaking to guests.

Nchang and Idols South Africa season 10 winner Vincent Bones kept congregants entertained while Lukau spent four and a half hours rubbing oil on the women’s fingers.

The hall included 16 LED screens, which flashed images of weddings, wedding rings and happy families. The excited women were dressed to the nines, hopeful a husband was coming their way soon.

“Some of you, nobody has ever looked at you, but by tomorrow someone will call you. No, I have not taken my time to pray for you so that a broken man can come after you. Your Mr Right will come loaded,” Lukau said to loud screams of “Amen”.
