LAW firm Norton Rose Fulbright has made two senior appointments: Lee Astfalck and Elmien le Roux join the firm as directors.
Astfalck has been appointed a director in the insurance team and will focus on insurance law, financial lines and commercial litigation.
He joins from Livingstone Crichton after a stint in London, where he qualified as a solicitor in England and Wales in 2003.
He deals with complex and large-loss policy coverage advice and subrogated recovery actions and regularly advises insurers on the drafting and preparation of policy wordings and new product development.
Le Roux joins the firm from Knowles Husain Lindsay Inc Attorneys, where she was a director. She has strong experience in a range of industries, spanning mining law, conservation law and municipal and planning law.
She has worked with several large mining companies advising on regulatory aspects of the sale of mining operations, and advising mining houses on employee housing schemes.
Donald Dinnie, the MD of Norton Rose Fulbright in South Africa, said: “These appointments make a big contribution to our team as they bring extensive experience across their practice areas. We are excited to have them on board and wish them many successful years with us.” CARMAKER Daimler AG has appointed Andreas Engling as executive director: manufacturing and CEO at Mercedes-Benz South Africa. He takes over from Arno van der Merwe, who will be the new president and CEO of Beijing Benz Automotive Company.
Engling has been with the Daimler organisation for more than 30 years. He is currently head of engine production for Daimler’s Untertürkheim plant in Germany and was previously CEO of MDC Power, a Daimler subsidiary.
He said: “I am excited about this new opportunity to lead the East London plant further on its path of quality and productivity excellence.” ROWLAND Gurnell has been appointed MD of the facilities management division for Southern Africa and Eastern Africa at the Sunbird Group. He joins the construction company from the Broll facilities management division, where he was chief operating officer.
Gurnell holds a government certificate of competency in electrical engineering and an MBA from the University of Leicestershire in the UK.
He has more than 25 years’ managerial experience and, says Sunbird, is set to develop cost-effective solutions for clients as a result of his “deep understanding of construction technology and mechanical and electrical concepts”.
