Carrim de la cuisine

-

IF the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach, then finance committee chairman Yunus Carrim must be feeling the love.

Parliament’s finance committee is not known for its popularity but managed to pull a full house this week while debating the returned Financial Intelligence Centre Amendment Bill.

At one point it was clear Carrim was only half listening to the speaker on the floor as he fiddled with his cellphone. He apologised, saying lunch had been ordered for 40 people but “4 500 turned up”.

“I assure you, come lunchtime, I will be more popular than you,” he joked.

And, at lunchtime, when guests turned up to piles and piles of food, it was clear Carrim had managed to feed (almost) 5 000.
