Parade of minstrels
Sixty Cape Town minstrel troupes make their Tweede Nuwe Jaar pilgrimage from Keizersgracht to the Bo-Kaap in front of at least 60 000 people on Tuesday. Will the parade start on time? Doubtful. Will people sleep on the pavement to secure a prime viewing spot? Always. Will the event’s new incarnation as the Cape Town Street Parade make a positive difference? Hopefully. Entertainment starts at the Grand Parade at noon with an opening ceremony at 1pm.
