Motata’s big hangover

Ten years after he crashed his Jaguar into a wall while drunk, Judge Nkola Motata will finally answer complaints of judicial misconduct on Wednesday before a Judicial Service Commission tribunal. He is accused of using racist language at the crash scene and breaching judicial ethics by lying at his drunk-driving trial.

Motata retired last year, but if the tribunal finds that he should be impeached and the National Assembly and president agree, he will lose his judge’s benefits, which include a salary for life.
