McBuffalo has clearly embraced his nickname, and proved to be a good sport the other day at Duncan Village when he told throngs of ANC supporters: “People of Buffalo City must come to Buffalo City Stadium, near the Buffalo River, to listen to the Buffalo.”

Hogarth expects that, come 2019, his election campaign song will be Bob Marley’s Buffalo Soldier.

But not everyone was happy to see McBuffalo in Duncan Village. As his 11-car convoy drove out of the township, with party supporters lining the streets, ululating and waving, a man seated under a tree was not impressed.

“Stop waving at this man. Tell him we’re hungry,” he shouted.
