CHEAP ’N CHIC

Fashionista Yasmin Furmie shares 10 tips for stylish dressing on a budget

-

1 Mix inexpensive items with great quality shoes, handbags or other accessories.

2 With inexpensive items, keep prints to a minimum. Solid colours can give the appearance of luxury — especially black, navy or charcoal — and can be worn for more than one season.

3 Take inspiration from the bigger and more expensive brands and interpret them with items from the chain stores.

4 Vintage shops provide endless ways to perk up your looks. Great belts and clothes that are well-priced can always be mixed with current pieces from your wardrobe.

5 Places like Mr Price, YDE and other big chain stores have affordable accessories that can update your look instantly.

6 I don’t hesitate to buy inexpensive clothes that appeal to me, be it from Mr Price, Jet or another chain store, but one or two great quality pieces make all the difference.

7 Pair a simple black dress with a great belt, colourful socks and killer shoes. Clothes should always fit well.

8 Keep an eye on sales. Inexpensive doesn’t always mean mass produced. Bargains can be found at the most unlikely places.

9 Don’t be afraid to check out the men’s department for boxy blazers and unstructured shirts.

10 Ultimately, fashion requires you to be brave, daring and act outside of the boundaries.
