Minister of inadvertent nonsense
If you want to know what the hell is going on at Eskom, don’t bother asking Public Enterprises Minister Lynne Brown. And if you do, and don’t get the right answers, which you probably won’t, rest assured it wasn’t deliberate. This week, public protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane found Brown “inadvertently” misled MPs on business dealings between Gupta-linked Trillian and the utility. Brown insists she was merely relaying information given to her by the board, and that she won’t quit. It beggars belief that she wasn’t more inquiring, though, especially given the swirl of rumours surrounding Eskom and the Guptas. But no. Showing all the curiosity of a dead cat, Brown again proved that if you want top-level information on Eskom, try the security guard at the gate at Megawatt Park.
