Celebs show off kids at Fun District

-

Being surrounded by screaming tots could be a prison sentence itself, and that’s just what happened to me last Saturday afternoon at the launch of the new Fun District at Sandton City.

The day, though, did give me the chance to be entertained by the world’s youngest DJ, tiny DJ Arch, and meet the offspring of a handful of celebs.

The entertainment level is the sprawling mall’s attempt at luring kids with features including a massive two-storey toy store complete with merry-go-round, Spur steak ranch and a kid-friendly Ster-Kinekor cinema.

Standing on Nelson Mandela Square at the start of the event, I meet the cute-as-a button six-year-old twins whose mom is actress Thembisa Mdoda. The boys, Lonwabo and Lonwabile, look in awe as characters including Darth Vader join a procession led by a school brass band which leads us to the mall’s new addition.

Also in tow is actress Mampho Brescia and her daughter Rain, Graeme Watkins and his boys and model Rosette Ncwana and her brood.

Downstairs I greet silver tracksuitwearing Tamara Dey, showing off her cute bub. Tamara says motherhood has taught her “to value every second”.

Musical dads came in the form of rapper Da Les with his little girl and Danny K, there with wife Lisa and their sons

Jayden, 3, and one-year-old Kyle.

I chat to Danny about his return to the music scene, and how he has smartly cottoned on to the popular Durban house sound making waves for his collaboration with Busiswa, called Starz.

“It’s not really gqom — I don’t think I could do that. It is more like soul gqom,” he explains.
