Tsamaya This week’s soccer buzz

-

● The hooligans, thieves, thugs — you can call them whatever name fits — yes the ones who invaded Moses Mabhida Stadium masquerading as Kaizer Chiefs fans, are a huge disgrace to our nation. They soiled what was a good game of football for their selfish interests. But what has been more scandalous was the PSL and SAPS response to these shenanigans, with no one prepared to take blame. Out of hundreds of hooligans who set Mabhida on fire, the SAPS chose to pat themselves on the back for arresting two; and one of those claimed to be an Orlando Pirates supporter. If that is really the case, you wonder whether the police were ever ready and prepared to arrest the real culprits. What a shame!

● Pitso Mosimane took his tiff with some SA’s broadcasters to greater heights this week with his attempt to name and shame them in a post-match interview on Wednesday. But the question is whether the ugly war of words is adding anything to our beautiful game? Is it really necessary, or is Mosimane and his enemies using the correct platforms to fight their long-held grudges? For the sake of peace in our game, Tsamaya is making himself available to be the mediator. We don’t want to see this escalating to what we saw at Mabhida.

● As solid and spectacular as Denis Onyango is, like all human beings, he's prone to a brain-fade or three. His mindmelting moment that led to Andrea Fileccia's equaliser in the pulsating 2-2 draw between Sundowns and Maritzburg United is top two. What possessed him to rush out and clear the ball when his defence could have cleared the danger is beyond the realm of normalcy. Tsamaya also remembers one such hair-raising moment which not only earned Onyango a red card, but saw Sundowns get a tshisampama from Bloem Celtic. At least this time, it wasn't that costly.
