MOTHER’S DAY MAGIC
The Mother’s Day card Allegra Lategan made this week for her mom, Chantal, came with extra doses of magic. Six-year-old Allegra, of Cape Town, weighed just 515g when she was born prematurely in July 2011, making her one of South Africa’s smallest surviving babies. After starting life in a sandwich bag to protect her skin, Allegra is now thriving in Grade 1 at Jan Kriel School for children with special needs in Kuils River. Said Chantal: “People always say Mother’s Day is about moms, but for me it’s about Allegra.“
