● Everyone who was anyone, and anyone's younger brother or sister twice removed, in government and football was at Mamelodi Sundowns' announcement of their friendly against Barcelona at

Sandton Convention Centre on Thursday. Football officials Danny Jordaan, Dennis Mumble and Ronnie Schloss looked like boot polishers next to the glamour of the Motsepes, Precious and Patrice, and the power of ministers Jeff Radebe and Tokozile Xasa. Even former sports minister Fikile “Mbaks” Mbalula resurfaced promising a razzmatazz, humdinger and a reshuffle. We wanted to jump up and say, “But you guys do know this is just a friendly, hey?” Just one question though — where was the "Iron Duke", Irvin Khoza? It's a mystery.

● At the same Sundowns-Barcelona gig we couldn’t stop ourselves asking all sorts of questions about hundreds of Sundowns supporters who have made it a norm to appear at each and every presser featuring their president. We wonder how they always manage to obtain leave from their respective employers for a time in the sun with their man. The yellow brigade have also proved to be a menace to soccer scribes, with whom they often have to share scarce portions of refreshments.

● Tsamaya knows Pitso Mosimane wouldn’t be the type to head a government department but after one of his trademark rants we've been made aware of a group of coaches on welfare in the PSL. Maybe it was Pitso auditioning for Minister Susan Shabangu’s job. According to Mosimane, this group consists of coaches who manage sides who don't have the deep pockets possessed by Sundowns, Kaizer Chiefs, Bidvest Wits and SuperSport United.

“Maybe it’s the monthly awards or the games you’ve won or whether it’s the welfare or the social responsibility of the smaller teams,” Mosimane speculated.
