A general who’s out of step
It’s a fishy business, this TV thing. Ask one General Bantu Holomisa, President for Life, Field Marshal, Lord of all UDM beasts and conqueror of the Transkei in particular. eNCA decided to get politicians to anchor its 8pm news programme for a week and the general thought he’d give it a go. He soon found out that the autocue — that fancy thing from which the anchors read the news — has a life of its own. And, boy, did it make a toy soldier of the general.
“You give a poor man fish, you feed him for a day. You teach him to fish, you give him . . . you give, give him . . . no, no, no,” he exclaimed in embarrassment as he was tripped by the autocue while attempting to read an old saying.
Here’s an easier one for this Holomisa: You give a bantustan general a political party, you feed him for life.
