A GHOST IN THE SANDS
If you’ve ever seen the wreck of the graceful German steamer Eduard Bohlen, which came ashore south of Walvis Bay in 1907, you’ll feel a shock of pleasant memory at the first sight of Shipwreck Lodge, a new hotel on the Skeleton Coast. The lodge — situated 68km north of Möwe Bay, between the Hoarusib and Hoanib Rivers — has wooden ribs reaching into the Namibian sky and its walls look like the clinker-built hull of a ship. Its setting in a 146 600ha concession is simply spectacular, and at least you will not be an actual castaway. Opening day was scheduled for June 1. Rates from N$1 200/night.
