Does your child have asthma?
If your child has frequent coughing spells — especially at night or when playing, laughing or crying — it could be asthma. Other symptoms include less energy during play, intermittent rapid breathing and complaints of a tight or hurting chest. Another telltale sign is wheezing, and parents should look out for “retractions” — see-saw motions in the chest from laboured breathing. Shortness of breath, tight neck and chest muscles, and feelings of weakness could also be symptoms.
