Power to the people in the queue

- WRITE TO HOGARTH@SUNDAYTIMES.CO.ZA

The Joburg middle class braved a cold winter day to listen to former US president Barack Obama deliver the Nelson Mandela lecture a day before the icon’s birthday. One of Hogarth’s spies spotted Obama’s biggest fan — leader of the Desperate Alliance Mmusi “Mini-Obama” Maimane right at the back of the queue of people lining up to make it inside the Wanderers stadium an hour before Obama delivered his speech. With the queue moving at snail’s pace, Mini-Obama became even more agitated that he would miss the real Obama. That’s when he and his entourage tried to jump the queue. But the crowd was having none of that and started jeering him, telling him to get back in line. Oh no Mini-Obama, No You Can’t!
