MEDICLINIC CELEBRATES ACHIEVERS

- –Danie Meintjes

MEDICLINIC IS ONE OF THE LARGEST HOSPITAL GROUPS IN THE WORLD WITH MORE THAN

100 HOSPITALS AND CLINICS IN FOUR COUNTRIES. MEDICLINIC EMPLOYS MORE THAN 35 000 PEOPLE. The group is home to professionals from various disciplines working together to bring our patients Expertise You Can Trust.

For Mediclinic to be successful employees need to be equipped with the required knowledge and skills. In 1985, as the supply of qualified nurses became problematic, Mediclinic started to invest in training. Mediclinic now runs seven Higher Education Learning Centres providing qualifications to Nurses, Operating Department Assistants and Paramedics. An Advanced Diploma in Health Services Management and Leadership is also offered.

This programme has been designed to equip learners with the unique skills required for managing and leading in the healthcare environment in Southern Africa. An average of 800 learners is in training at Mediclinic Learning Centres across the country annually. At the recent achievers’ ceremonies where the Mediclinic Private Higher Education Institution confers qualifications, 498 learners were recognised for their achievements.

The functions recognised 86 achievers in Bloemfontein, 273 achievers in Gauteng which included learners from Polokwane and Mpumalanga, and 139 learners in the Cape. This year celebrated the first cohort of paramedics that completed the Diploma in Emergency Medical Care.

Learners that did programmes at the ER24 Training Centre, other educational institutions and short courses in specialised nursing were also recognised at the Mediclinic functions.

The theme of the event was “knowledge guides excellence” and messages regarding the value of knowledge and its contribution to excelling were passed on to the graduates by the Chief Executive Officer of Mediclinic International, Danie Meintjes, and the Chief Executive Officer of Mediclinic Southern Africa, Koert Pretorius.

The success of the Mediclinic learners can be attributed to the dedicated team of educators in the seven registered learning centres and the learning and development facilitators and mentors at the Mediclinic hospitals where learners do their clinical training.

Mediclinic is proud of the achievements of its learners and is committed to continuing training healthcare practitioners towards addressing the scarcity of skills in the country, and thus enable the provision of safe, quality care, and Expertise You Can Trust. Mediclinic also strives through its investment in training to contribute towards a better quality of life for many. “It is all about the people (doctors and staff) using their specific knowledge, skills and attitude combined with using the hospital’s infrastructure to deliver on the promise Expertise You Can Trust”.
