‘Bold’ leading lady has an athlete’s stamina

-

● With more of us having watched her character Brooke Logan walk down the aisle about 19 times than have seen a Kentridge art work, I’d have been a snob to turn down the chance to meet The Bold and the Beautiful leading lady Katherine Kelly Lang.

So Wednesday night saw me at the snazzy Four Seasons Hotel in Westcliff to meet a woman who deserves an award for her stamina both on screen and off. Making my way up to the Flames Lounge, I greet loved-up couple Khanyi Mbau and Tebogo Lerole and actress Thembisa Mdoda, who is wearing more feathers than a flock of migrating birds.

Next, I meet Nomsa Piliso, the SABC head who last month had to tell production companies that the cashstrapped broadcaster needed more time to make payments. Nomsa assures me that the corporation is putting on its big-boy pants to sort out its mess. Someone hoping they’ll still be banking on Brooke’s on-screen antics was our host for the evening, Christine Waage from The Bold’s production company Bell-Phillip.

Other guests included a slew of Bell-Phillip and SABC execs and celebs such as Selimathunzi’s perky Khanya Mkangisa and Isidingo’s Motlatsi Mafatshe and Soso Rungqu, who were thrilled that the blonde actress had appeared on the local soapie.

In walks Katherine on the arm of her partner in love and business, Dominique Zoida. I ask the actress, who was here to compete in the Ironman 70.3 world championship in Port Elizabeth, what was more gruelling: the half-triathlon or playing the same role since 1987. “They’re equal,” answers the 57-year-old with a body of someone half her age. Dominique told me that the couple’s sportswear range might see them return to the country soon.
