ANNABEL FRERE

-

Her passion for food was instilled by her French mother, she says, and a long stint of running the tuckshop at her daughters’ school. Many would say that would quell any passion, but not Frere, who has a great palate, loves drinking real champagne and even named her dog after her favourite brand. Help! There’s a Guest at My Table follows on from Help! There’s a Stove in My Kitchen, which originated as a guide for her daughters when they left home. The new cookbook is full of good advice and recipes which make one want to rush into the kitchen. It’s aimed at the novice or the entertainer looking for inspiration — a compilation of simple, tried-and-tested recipes. It includes tips on how to set a table properly, choosing a menu, setting up and finishing touches. ‘Help! There’s a Guest at My Table’, published by Penguin Random House South Africa, R220
